REVIEW:
Manga Rock - Mascara

There are two essential components that can make or break a mascara: the brush and the formulation.  If two are made just right, then the mascara will attain the Holy Grail status.

Let’s talk about the first component, the brush.  The  360° spiked silicone brush is a conical shape (in layman’s terms, it’s thicker at the base then tapers at the tip).  This isn’t your typical silicone brush.  The conical shape helps you access lashes corner to corner and root to tip.   The bristles help style lashes in a strand-by-strand effect.  There are pretty large spaces on the brush.  This allows the brush to hold maximum amount of product so it coats each lash without having to place the wand back into the tube to get more product.

The design of this brush is absolutely amazing!  I don’t even have to wiggle the wand back and forth to build volume at the base of my lashes, I can just swipe the wand from root to tip.  I like to use the tip of the brush to manipulate the lashes so it fans out properly.  It’s thin enough that you won’t get the product smudged all over your eyelid or undereye area.  Because the brush holds a lot of product, I can use it on the top and bottom lashes for both eyes without having to re-dip.

Now for the second component, the formulation.  The exact formulation I purchased was Waterproof in Blackest Black.  For those that don’t know, here’s my lash situation: I have thin asian lashes that naturally point straight down, so I like to curl the heck out of them.  When I apply non-waterproof mascara, it tends to de-curl and I end up seeing black dots.  Because waterproof mascaras contain more waxes, it tends to hold a curl better.  The mega texturizing formula is thinner than your traditional mascaras.  This allows more control over your desired look. It creates buildable volume from root to tip, giving you flexibility in your end result.

This mascara truly gives the false lash effect with lots of volume!  When I do kickboxing, I sweat tremendously.  To the point where it actually runs into my eyes.  After kickboxing, the mascara is still in tack, my lashes are still up, and there is only the tiniest bit of smudging underneath my eye.  But how often are people really sweating this much on a daily basis? It has definitely held up the best in comparison to all the waterproof mascaras I’ve tried. Sometimes mascaras tend to flake when you sweat or cry.  Not this one!  I even watched really sad movies and TV shows to get the waterworks moving in order to test this out.

You’ll notice a huge difference with the before and after photos.  Each time I meet a client, they ask if my lashes are real.  In fact, I walked into Sephora the other day and an artist there was asking if my lashes were real and what I was using.  Now you know…

There are two major downsides to this formulation.  Because it is so long-lasting, it is very hard to remove off.  So micellar waters will not work, instead I would suggest using oil based makeup removers soaked on a cotton pad and holding it over the eye for a few seconds.  Also, since you can build up the formula easily, you can end up with spikey lashes like the advertisements, if you aren’t careful.  But no worries…that’s where a lash comb comes into play!

Would I buy this product again?
HECK YEAH!  The brush is ingenious and the formula is spectacular…total HOLY GRAIL status!  As the Instagram post suggested, I already purchased one for my Sis to try out and one for my makeup kit, so I can use it on my clients!  Love this mascara…you definitely hit the nail on the head with this product, L’Oreal!
