Food Friday Logo

For this week’s Food Friday, I want to switch things up a bit. I want to talk about a vendor who not only makes the prettiest and most intricate creations I’ve seen, but also the most delicious ones!

I first came across Bloom Cake Co. at a wedding where I was assisting Rhia Amio with makeup.  Their work and signage was so creative that I just had to stalk follow their work on Facebook.

Sharon is the owner and she’s an absolute genius.  Every time she posts a photo of her work on Facebook, I’m in awe.  Her fondant work is “spot on” as Gordon Ramsay would say.  There is no sign of finger print marks and everything is moulded to perfection.  She constantly strives to provide her clients with the best possible experience by improving her skill set through taking classes and investigating new techniques.

In July, I wanted to surprise my friend with some cake pops.  There was no special occasion, just wanted to put a smile on her face since she was going through the stress of wedding planning.  She never had it before so this was my chance.  My request was super last minute but Sharon somehow was able to accommodate me.  All I told Sharon was that my friend likes tiramisu, Hello Kitty, pink, and was about to get married.  Using all of her creative juices, Sharon created this masterpiece for me:

Needless to say, Sharon rocked it!  My friend absolutely loved it and couldn’t stop smiling 🙂

When Sharon posted on Facebook that she was selling sampler packs of cupcakes, I knew this was my chance to try some and it couldn’t have happened at a better time.  My niece just aced both her courses in summer school and my nephew rocked a piano recital.  So being the proud Aunt that I am, I wanted to surprise them with some delicious cupcakes.

Sample Pack: (Left to Right) Chocolate Peanut Butter, Lemon Strawberry, Red Velvet, and Rainbow Vanilla Bean

The kids and even my Mom LOVED them! The cake isn’t heavy but actually quite light and not too sweet. Did I mention how gorgeous they are?  My Mom is super picky when it comes to desserts so for her to rave about it and how this was the best cupcake she ever had was huge.  No I’m not exaggerating.  She was so impressed with the cupcakes that she was couldn’t stop talking about them during dinner and said that we need to order again from Sharon for future parties instead of buying a cake at a bakery.

(From Top – Clockwise) Chocolate Peanut Butter, Rainbow Vanilla Bean, Lemon Strawberry, and Red Velvet

Each cupcake tasted exactly what the description says.  My favourite was definitely the Chocolate Peanut Butter.  It was rich in flavour which satisfied any chocolate craving I was having.  How genius is it for Sharon to put mini Reese peanut butter cups on top?  The Rainbow Vanilla Bean was so pretty that you just didn’t want to eat it.  I’m still perplexed on how Sharon created that without muddling up the colours.  The vanilla flavour was very light and refreshing.  The Lemon Strawberry was a lemon cake with a strawberry buttercream. It’s sometimes hard to really get strawberry flavour in the icing without it being too fabricated, but this tasted like real strawberries!  It’s important to note that none of the icings were frostings, rather they were buttercream.  So you didn’t get that fake icing sugar taste.  Last but not least was Red Velvet.  Traditional red velvet cupcakes involve a pretty heavy cream cheese frosting.  This wasn’t the case.  It was very light and didn’t leave a lingering cheese taste in your mouth.

Sharon does custom cakes as well for any occasion (e.g. weddings, birthdays, etc..).  If you haven’t already, you need to check out her work on Facebook.  Bet you just can’t view one picture and close the window 😉
